Music Video Comparison and Changes Made

After we got feedback we adjusted our video in order to improve the aspects of the first draft that people did not like. Below is the feedback that we acted on and the evidence of the changes which we made.
In response to the feedback we were given, some of the changes we made to the video were significant where as others were more discreet. We replaced some of the shots that were too shaky and unstable such as the shot before the transition of the first and second costume. However, we didn't want to change too many of the moving shots as it may take away the home video style of our video and make it more high production.
We also made a big change to the ending of the video, as we were told it was too anti climatic and a disappointment. We decided to film a whole sequence of her looking through all of the photos we took, which was represented using the black and white flash in the video. This added the more warm, homely feel to our video which we wanted to achieve. The photography theme is also clearly established at the end. We also added more colour correction across the video so that it flowed smoothly and looked more professional.

Magazine Article

After creating a magazine article we made the article to go along with it. This article is which we have made has been produced to go in Billboard and through basing it on the Ariana Grande article which has previously been in Billboard, we created a final article. This is what is below and we have used the software Adobe In-Design in order to make this. This is because this is what the professionals use in the editorial world.
Below is the final produced article:

Teen Vogue Cover

As Heidi Holmes is a brand new artist, in order to make people aware of our artist and aid in making her more recognised by people, it is important that we have as much coverage as possible. This is why we have decided to have our artist star on a second magazine cover, enabling more people to learn about our artist.
Also we decided to use 'Teen Vogue' for our second cover due to the type of consumers it attracts. This because, Teen Vogue is aimed at female 13- 15 year olds and this is our target audience for Heidi Holmes' music. Therefore by having Heidi on the cover will expose her and her music to our target audience, which will as a result help our artist gain more fans which is critical if our artist is to increase in popularity and work their way up the charts.

Final DigiPak

Following on from the feedback which was produced, we acted on it and adjusted our DigiPak in order to make it look more professional and up o the best standard possible. As a result we have come up with our final DigiPak which can be seen below:

DigiPak Changes Made Due to Feedback

In response to the feedback we received from our peers, we made some alterations to the Digipak to make the final product.
Here is the comparison of our first draft to our final draft:

  • Most of the people didn't like the use of different fonts used, so we changed this so all of the writing had the typography style to it, increasing consistency.
  • The positioning of the panels were also changed so that the layout worked out better on our final CD.
  • Quite a few of our peers also said that the white border around the national anthem logo looked to amateur, and that we was missing the album title on the spine of the Digipak, which we also added.
  • We alternatively decided to add a special thanks panel to the design as we felt it would add to the artist's friendly personality, making the rose picture out of focus so that the text could be clearly seen.
  • Our final alteration we made was on the disc. We decided against placing the text angled as it was difficult to read, so we placed the writing at a straight angle, still using the purple bar against the pink disc. To carry the nature theme across the Digipak, we decided to add some more tree doodles as well as the stars.
  • Two of the pictures were also edited out and replaced as these were the least liked images on the Digipak. We decided to use more images of her to increase the star image. These were used on the lyrics and the special thanks pages as the two images used before were described by our peers as too cliché.
  • We also saw that a couple of the Polaroid images were too washed out and the exposure settings were too high. The images were also changed and colour corrected.

Music Video First Draft Feedback

Now that we ave completed our first draft, we went in search of feedback, particularly from our peers. We asked them to watch the video and while the were watching, through the use of the mark scheme to give us feedback on what they thought about the video. From this feedback that we have received from them, we are able to take on board both positives and negatives that were said about our video.
By taking on this suggested feedback we will be able to make sufficient improvements to our first draft and as a result improve our final mark for this section. This is because, by changing the bad sections that people noticed and keeping the parts people liked will all together create a good final video.

First Draft Analysis Feedback

As a first draft there are both parts that were successful and unsuccessful, therefore meaning that there are still improvement to be made. Through completing this analysis which is below, it will highlight to us the clear improvements that need to be made, how we will complete this, along with what was completed well and should remain the same in our final Tour Poster.
As a result of this feedback analysis we will be able to greatly improve our Tour Poster and then easily be able to complete and post our final version with the improvements mentioned below.

DigiPak Feedback

After we completed our DigiPak and showed it to people we asked them to give us feedback, in order for us to be able to improve it and as a result make it look much more professional and appropriate for our artist, as well as anyways we could possibly make the link to our video and website better through synergy.
This is the feedback we received:

Campaign Poster

As a young artist, appealing to a young audience, using a social media campaign to target filtering photos that people post, is a completely relevant and vast issue that effects multiple members of Heidi's fans. This means that through putting out this campaign, it will enable Heidi Holmes to come across as a positive role model, which is important for the innocence of our artist.
As the audience we are targeting are nearly all on some form of social media, we decided that the best way to promote the campaign would be through the below the line strategy of a hashtag. This is because if our artist is able to get the hashtag trending then we will be able raise awareness outside of the fan base. The way in which we want to get our hashtag trending is going to be through people nominating people to post a selfie photograph along with he hashtag '#RealNoFilter'.

Feedback for Other Videos

Over the last week, due to every group having finished their first drafts, we have all come together and watched each others and given our opinions and feedback based on the current mark scheme. The mark scheme is as follows:

So as a result of looking through the mark scheme I will looking for the a list of various criteria. These include:
1. Is the footage appropriate to the task set?
2. How is the framing of the shot and does it include and exclude elements as appropriate?
3. Does it use a variety of shots and distances, holding a steady shot?
4. What good was the selecting of the mise en scene including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting?
5. Has the editing made the meaning apparent to the viewer?
6. Have they used a variety of transitions and used other effects selectively?
7. Do the images and sound go well together?
In order to access top marks the video needs to show all of the above excellently and this means that the videos will be as close to a professional standard as possible. Even though we looked at all of the videos the one that everyone in our group gave feedback to was the video for the artist Sempa. which was 'Walking with the Elephants':

After watching the video this is the feedback which we gave:
Elona:
'I like this video and I feel like the drawings on the chorus make it really unique and I like the ghosting effect that is put on in the "bang" of the verse. Although maybe this could be used more as it looks more of a successful accident at the moment. Also I really like the thought beats that have been shown however there are too many flashes at times which makes it a little annoying to watch.'
Angel:
'I think the drawings were really effective throughout the chorus, but I thought that due to it predominantly only being in te chorus, it can make it a bit sudden and not link well with the rest of the video. So I think to improve it the drawing should be incorporated more during the rest of the video.'
Charlie:
'I thought there was a good variation of shots and the settings (mise en scene) used fit the song well. I also thought that the picture art for the chorus showed a good level of editing and time taken. However, at times I felt that the lip synching was off and it was a shame that they repeated the exactly the footage for both chorus'.'
Georgia:
'I really liked the idea behind the drawing shots and the drone shots looked really professional and smooth. One thing I would suggest that they improve though, is the text of the title at the beginning looked armature and if that is changed it will make the whole video come together way better.'

Tour Poster First Draft

As a new artist one relatively cheap below the line way of marketing is through distributing tour posters. This is because we are able to put these up in many places in the local area to the venues and lots of people nearby will see about the tour and therefore our artist. This as a result enables people to begin to recognise our artist more and more.
To help the audience begin to recognise our artist and her image we have continued the synergy of the pink and purple borders from our DigiPak and the blue colour, typewriter font with a nature background from the video and DigiPak too. Along with this to maintain with the theme of travelling throughout the whole of this album and tour we have continued to use the idea of the tube map lines. This therefore inspired our title of the tour to be 'Destinations', as each stop on a railway map is a different destination.

Photo Shoot Photos

Today to gain more photos with appropriate lighting for use on social media and to use in improving our magazine cover we completed a photo shoot. So below shows some of the examples of the photos we took during the shoot.

Tour Poster Research and Inspirations

One way of advertising and promoting our artist's concerts and tours, in a fairly cheap budget (as it is below the line) is through posters. This is because if it is eye catching enough then everyone who walks past is able to see it and as a result will learn a bit about our artist's image and therefore music, and when along with were they can see her.
In order to make the poster look as professional as possible we have completed research on the different types of posters that similar artists have. This has lead to Foxes becoming a key inspiration for us, due to the synergy she maintains throughout everything she does.

Signature Research and Creation

When we looked at how we wanted to sell products of our artist's and get her name out there, we thought that a really good way to complete this would be through giving away and selling special versions of our merchandise and album. This idea was then furthered by making the product special by adding a signature.
Through deciding upon this idea to make our products special we needed to come up with and create a signature for Heidi Holmes. To do this we created multiple different versions that could be used as a signature and then asked people to vote on which one they preferred, the most liked one, then became our signature.
As mentioned before we will use this as a way of selling albums and getting fans involved in competitions as they would have the chance to win signed Heidi Holmes merchandise.
Below is how we came up with our signature:

Photoshoot Risk Assessment

When we started to plan the photo shoot which we will use for the magazine article and next draft of the cover, due to the high amount of lights and risks, we have had to make a risk assessment. This will enable us to take the required precautions that are needed when shooting for us to remain completely safe throughout. This also important because if we take he correct precautions straight away then we will be able to complete what we need to quickly along with safely.

Behind the Scenes

Now that we have completed all the filming we need to, we decided to create a behind the scenes video of our first day of filming. This is because it will further help our fans connect and get to know our artist, because many fans want to know what their favourite artists are like off the screen and what their personality is like when they are having fun.
Also since many of our target fans watch YouTube a lot, we will post it on Heidi's YouTube channel first and this make it accessible to the most amount of fans.

DigiPak First Draft

Today we published our first draft for the digipak. For this we have completed it on Photoshop and through using the official measurements, we have created the front and back covers, along with what will go inside too. We have used the photographs from our South Weald Park shoot and this creates a nature feel and this connotes across to the audience the folk genre of Heidi Holmes' music. This is because folk music is stereo-typically associated with that genre.
Also to create synergy throughout all of our ways of promoting we have maintained the theme of travel and photography. This explains why we have included the Polaroids (which also adds a rustic feel to our artist) and the stamps which you would see on a letter, that feature on the back cover.

To move forward from here we will go and look for feedback from teachers and peers anonymously in order to receive honest feedback with suggestions as to how we can improve. We will then take these on board and therefore make improves to this first draft.

Creation of DigiPak

For the project that we are completing, the DigiPak is worth 10 marks in total, so it is important that we take plenty of time to make the DigiPak as good as we can and as a result suit the artist's image. From using our variety research we came together and suggested our ideas, which we have put together and can be seen in the 'making of' presentation and then this influenced our photo shoots so that we could use the photos in our DigiPak.
Here is how we made it:

Magazine Cover First Draft Feedback

After we completed the magazine cover we got our peers who would be the target audience for the magazine and asked them to give us feedback. Through them giving us feedback it will enable us to make vital improvements to our cover and make it as realistic as possible.
To make show we received a great range of feedback we asked them to give feedback on specific sections of the cover, such as the photography and then the text which is on the cover,
We will take all the feedback we have received on board and we will act on them. This will in the end enable us to put the cover together well with the article.

Official Music Video First Draft

Now that we have completed all the filming and shooting that we wanted to do, we have managed to put all the shots we want to do together in order for us to create our official first draft. To get to this point however, due to everyone having different ideas, we started editing individually so that after a week we could join all three versions into one to get a video that we all agreed on and liked. When we combined them to create a single video, we colour corrected the shots, to make it consistent, and changed any shots that we thought could have been better. There are still parts that need adjusting and improving, but to make sure that the improvements we make are efficient and correct we have exported the version we have got so far, as a first draft in order to enable us to receive feedback from our peers and our teachers as to what really does need improving.

Here is our Official First Draft:

Magazine Cover First Draft

To go alongside the magazine article we are also creating a front cover. We have used Photoshop to create this and based the layout on a real Billboard cover which we found in our research for the cover. This way it enabled us to make the cover look as realistic as possible and as if our artist was on the front cover. When creating this, in order to display verisimilitude, we have tried to include everything you would expect to find on a front cover, including the bar-code and quotes as to what is inside.
This is our first draft for the cover and we aim to improve this in the future. To help improve this in the best way possible, we are going to ask other people for feedback, as to what they think is good and bad. From there it will be clear as o what improvements we need to make.

Campaign Research

Many of the teenagers that would be fans of Heidi Holmes have to continuously fight against what the media is telling them they should look like. So this is why we feel it will be great for our artist's 'innocent' and 'good' image if she heads a campaign promoting body image and especially facial image. We have looked deeper into this and then decided through inspiration from celebrities such as Emma Watson that we will complete a video that involves an inspirational speech and examples from our own artist's life.

Website First Draft

Over the last few weeks we have started to create our website. We completed this through the website Wix.com, A key reason we have decided to create a website is because nearly everyone has access to he internet and it will therefore make people more aware of our artist internationally. Also through a website it gives the fans somewhere to go to find out various information about Heidi Homes. This includes when her tour is and what merchandise they can buy.
Below is our first draft of the website, which we will now go and receive feedback for to help us improve it for our target audience and this will mean we can gain more fans and a greater following.

Magazine Cover Research

From the marketing research we clearly identified that one key way to promote our artist to the world would be through a magazine cover, because then even if the magazine is not bought people will still see the cover in shops for example. This will enable us to make our artist more well known and recognized in general, as when passersby see Heidi Holmes on the cover they are more likely to be curious as to who the person on the front is and therefore read the cover at least.
However as our artist comes under quite a specific genre of Folk-Pop it is important to put our artist on the correct type of magazine. This is because otherwise it would not look realistic as if the magazine we we chose to star on was a rock magazine, it would not make sense for Heidi to star on it, and the wrong type of audience (people who probably would not like her music) would be the ones reading and knowing about her.

Magazine Article Layout Template

After completing the Billboard magazine research, we had to look into a similar article that we wanted to take the layout template from. This is in order to make the article look professional and as if it could have actually been in an edition of Billboard.
When looking at the various layouts from our research, we recognised that for the artist to be on the front cover the layout we chose needed to be at least a double page spread, so usually even more. Once we looked into our options of this we finally decided that we would base the layout of our article on the template that was used for Ariana Grande's recent Billboard interview, this is because we agreed it involved the correct ratio of writing and photographs, that would be informing yet aesthetically pleasing for the consumer. This therefore easily helps to portray across what our artist is like as a person, along side her image.
Here is what the layout of Ariana Grande's interview looks like:

Image result for ariana grande billboard interview

To recreate this layout for our article, we will use the Adobe Indesign software, and this will enable to get clear dividers, stand out boxes and quote lines that will make the article look more professional than it would if we completed it on a simple Microsoft document. This is because this is closer to the software that professional magazine editors use.

Interview Article Research

As from looking at ways of marketing, we saw that a key way of marketing is via a magazine cover and article. So now that we have completed the research for the cover we now need to look into how the article should look, come across and be written. This will help our article to be accurate and true as if it actually could be in Billboard Magazine. Further to this by making the article inside accurate it will aid what is on the cover to also be accurate, as it makes the quotes which are written on the cover more realistic and natural, as if you would actually find them there.

Halfway Evaluation Feedback

While we were completing our halfway evaluation presentation, we got the class to each fill out feedback for us based on what we were showing them, which is what we have completed so far in our promotional package of our artist Heidi Holmes. In this feedback they told us what was good and bad about each section of the promotional package, these sections included Video, Website and DigiPak.
After they completed the feedback, we collected it all in and then once we had looked through it all we summarised it, from this we can clearly see what was good and what we need to improve if we are to move forward and achieve a higher grade in the end.
Below is what we managed to summarised:

Summer Theme Teaser Photos Release

We have now released our second set of teaser photos onto our social media accounts, this will continue to 'hype' the audience up about the upcoming release of the debut single. However to fully ‘hype’ people up about the single, this time, we are announcing the release date of the song by including the date on the teaser images as well as including the single title 'Find My Way'. This set of teasers will therefore reveal more about the upcoming release in comparison to the first teasers which only included the logo and the Autumn concept. Releasing different sets of teasers is important in terms of building excitement and publicity as it lets the public know, little by little, about the details of the new release. This therefore leaves the audience wanting more in terms of information about our artist, each time and this would increase talk about our artist and therefore the popularity of our artist.

Below are the photos we released.

Tuesday, 8 November 2016

Institution Research

For a music artist to be able to release music successfully they need at least some type of representation. This representation is given through a record label. We have completed research into this, because different labels often represent different types of genre and it is important for our artist, for it to be realistic, that we choose to be represented by the right label. This is because this label will feature on our DigiPak and as an unknown artist, people may look at the label and connote a certain genre of music with our artist. This is why after completing the research which is below, we have decided to go with National Anthem Records.

Monday, 7 November 2016

Interview Research

Interviews are key in unveiling an artist's personality which can help attract the target audience, therefore, we did some research on other artist interviews within the same age range of Heidi Holmes to see how we can successfully create an interview that showcases her bright personality. Additionally, artists are given the chance to discuss their music and the process of creating their songs which is a useful way to promote and sell the music, especially since the audience and consumers will not know much about our artist yet, because she is new.

Halfway Evaluation

Today we presented to the class our Halfway Evaluation. We had to present to them everything we have completed so far and this included sneak peeks of the parts of the music video that we have edited. When presenting to the class we spoke through the presentation below and answered any questions they had about our ideas.
Whilst this was happening our class members were writing feedback on the mark sheets and gave us out of 50. Then we collected in these sheets and from this we will be able to improve our promotional package and therefore through completing this evaluation we can increase our final marks for each section.

Thursday, 3 November 2016

Merchandise

One way of marketing the artist to the audience is through merchandise, and in order to appeal to as many people as possible it is important that we have a wide variety of products available and to make sure the artist's logo is out there these products must have the logo on.
As Heidi Holmes is just starting out the products we choose muse be fairly generic and therefore cheap to produce, for example t-shirts, key rings and hoodies. However one way that we have made our merchandise more unique to our artist is through one of the products being a blue winter hat because in her music video this will feature within her outfits. So by producing this hat as merchandise it can allow the audience to achieve a similar look to the artist, which normally lots of younger female fans like to do.

Tuesday, 1 November 2016

Merchandise Research

Today we looked at how merchandise can be used in further creating an image for our artist and helping to promote or advertise the artist, her music and eventually her tour to the consumers and audiences. To make sure that our merchandise would be effective in advertising to the correct audience, we completed this research which looks at various similar artists, including Gabrielle Aplin and Ellie Goulding, and what they complete for their merchandising and how it works for us. This will influence our final decisions when it comes to the final creation of the merchandise.

We plan to be inspired by all of the artists above in our merchandise, but we will particularly take inspiration from Gabrielle Aplin's merchandise due to the great variety she has which is specific to her expected target audience.

Saturday, 29 October 2016

Marketing Research

Today we looked into ways in which you can market an artist to consumers and an audience. This is important when trying to create an image for the artist and therefore adding to the promotional package that we are completing for this project. This is because if we promote the artist in a variety of ways, more people are going to begin to recognise and become fans of Heidi Holmes. Some ways we found that you could market through is merchandise, posters and trailers.

Autumn Teaser Photos Release

Due to the artist we have created being new and up and coming, many of our target audience members will not know who Heidi Holmes is or what she looks like. So in order to portray to the audience a better representation and image for our artist, through our social media accounts we have released teaser pictures from a recent photo shoot of our artist.
All of the photos that we have used have an autumn theme and this is because Heidi Holmes will hold a nature theme throughout her first album and therefore in her image too. Leading on from this, the next teaser photos we release will hold a different seasonal theme, for example Summer or Winter. During the photo shoots, we decided that we wanted to showcase different seasons as part of our concept, as this will reflect our artist's unique and versatile persona, contrasting with the stereotypical 'shy' artist image within the genre of folk pop. For example, the contrast between summer and winter will suggest that there are different sides to her which will be unveiled in interviews, behind the scenes clips and other promotional videos.
Finally we have also made sure that we included the artist's logo on all of our teaser photos. This is because this further causes people to remember our artist and when they see that logo they are more likely to instantly recognise that it is hers.

Starting the Social Media

Our main way of connecting with our target audience is through social media as our artist, Heidi, will be able to showcase her bright and quirky personality through her tweets/posts as well as the accounts serving as a useful marketing platform. We are planning to announce release dates, music video, photo-shoot and song teasers on the Twitter and Instagram accounts to gather online attention surrounding Heidi Holmes which is important as she is a 'new and upcoming artist' in the industry. Social networking sites can be accessed by people worldwide, therefore allowing us to reach to a wider and global target audience.

After doing research, we have decided to use 'HeidiHOfficial' and 'HeidiHolmesOfficial' as our usernames on Twitter and Instagram. Most artists, such as Niall Horan from One Direction, normally have official at the end of their username to reinforce the fact that it is their one and only social media account because artists inevitably have posers who create fake accounts pretending to be them.

Below is evidence of the social media accounts that we have created:

Twitter:

We have put the logo as the icon to establish Heidi's brand image, as well as the music-related bio to highlight her career as a musician. Examples of tweets include interacting with the fans by giving out teaser pictures, previews and tweeting about Heidi's day to create a sense of realism.

Instagram:
We have posted a wide selection of photos of our artist, as well as pictures of what Heidi has supposedly taken to contribute to the building of her bright, lovable persona. We are planning to release more pictures from the album photo shoot to get our target audience excited and interested about the upcoming release.

First Draft Student Feedback

Now that we have completed our first attempt at our music video, we wanted to get feedback from our peers so that we can see what others feel works well and what needs to be improved. This will therefore help us to make our video better and further help us work out what needs to be re-filmed in the future. After we showed them the video and they told us the feedback we took note of everything positive and negative that they mentioned and then summarised it into the presentation below.

First Draft Teacher Feedback

Today now that we have finished our first attempt at creating the music video, we decided that i still needs improving, so to help us know which parts to improve on first we are asked our teacher for feedback on it. She watched our first draft and then told us what to improve and what she thought was good about it. With this feed back we will be able o make our music video look more professional and therefore more realistic for an up and coming artist such as what we are creating.
Below is the feedback we received:

Thursday, 20 October 2016

Photoshoot

The last time we went to the location of South Weald we completed a photo shoot with both an autumn and summer theme. We did this because it is important that we have various photographs of the artist, so that we can use them in various stages of our marketing. This includes magazine covers, posters and teasers for which we plan to release on our social media sites.
Through completing this we are able to get more people recognising our artist, which considering she is new, is vital if we are to get the audience to buy the artist's single and album in the future.

We created the autumn theme photos through going to the wooded section of the park and maintaining a browny, orangery colour scheme throughout. We did this to give the back drop of falling leaves, show the nature of this season and achieve the cool yet vibrant feel of our artist.

We created the summer theme photos by going to the open field sections of the park and due to the day being extremely clear and bright, along with the summery nature of the costume, made the atmosphere come across as warm and cheerful. This was though the use of more pastel floral colours such as pink and greens, that many people connote with the season of summer.

The First Attempt at the First Draft

After editing for the last couple of weeks we have come up with a template and idea for the first draft of our music video out of the footage we have so far. Whilst we realise that we need to film more and get more footage for us to be able to make this music video more professional, we believe that this is a good starting point for the first draft. However, now we are a little stuck as to which direction to take this video, so in order for us to be able to improve the standard of the video and know where to go from here we will ask for lots of feedback from both our teacher and current students.
Here is our first attempt at our first draft:

Performance Inspiration

Performance is a key aspect of any music video, because unless the performance is believable and gripping for the audience, they are more likely to just stop watching it due to finding it 'boring'. So in order to make sure that the performance from our artist is exciting to watch, we have looked into artists that perform in ways we would like recreate and put our twist on. This will further enable us to give Elona, who is performing as Heidi Holmes, a clear direction into how we want her to act and perform in front of the camera. To do this we have taken inspiration from other famous artists' performances such as Jasmine Thompson and Shawn Mendes.

Creating the Logo

The logo is a key part of the marketing for our artist as it is what the artist will become associated with and known for. This is because Heidi Holmes' logo will be shown on her merchandise, website and photo shoot photos. Due to it being such a huge part of our marketing, we needed to get it completely correct to fit our artist's genre and image representation. So to do this we had to go through multiple stages before we could finalize our logo, this included creating a survey and trying different logos on Photoshop to find the right one.
Below is the process we went through:

Thursday, 13 October 2016

Website Research

Now that we have completed the analysis of a website, we took that information and furthered it by completing a research into music artists websites and more particularly, artists websites who are in the same genre as we will try to recreate. We have gone into plenty of detail including what we should include and how we will be inspired by artists such as Carrie Underwood.

Monday, 10 October 2016

Similar Genre Video Research

Folk Pop is an extremely unique and specific genre so it is very important that we look at other videos in order to know the types of music videos that represent the music of this genre accurately. This research will therefore help to inspire our final music video creation.

Website Analysis

Before we complete our website we need to fully understand what we should expect to see when looking at one from an artist of our genre, which is Folk/Folk Pop. The way in which we can do this is though analysing  one of these websites the website that we have chosen to analyse is Ellie Goulding, because even though now she is a Pop artist, she initially started out as folk and broke her way into the top charts and this is what we aim for our artist, Heidi Holmes, to achieve.

London Filming Preparation

One location that we decided to film in is London, and due to us having to spend money and take a lot of time travelling to this location we need to make sure that we know exactly where we are going, how we are getting there and that we are going on an appropriate day weather wise to be able to film. Through completing this preparation we will be able to make the most of our time and be able to as much as we can and need throughout the day.

Shooting Day 2- Shooting Schedule

For our second day of shooting, we decided to go to London. Below is the shooting schedule for our second day of filming, to ensure that filming proceeds smoothly especially as this time, we are travelling to the busy city of London, having a schedule is essential as we have to travel by train to the different locations that we intend to film at, therefore this time, we have to consider train times and how long we are going to stay at each location. As it is a full day of filming in London, we have also scheduled a break in the middle of the day to replenish our energy to ensure that we are working with a positive and high-standard mind set. The shooting schedule, along with the regular check on London weather forecast and equipment gathering, will help us get ready for the big shooting day.

Location Shots- London

Once again after looking at our Steal-o-matic and location research, we decided that certain places in London would be perfect, because then we would be able to film in multiple different looking locations in one day. So when we further looked into places within London we found that easily within one day we could travel from Camden Market to Little Venice and stop at Regents Park along the way, and they all fit the locations from the location research that we wanted to find. When searching these areas online this is what we found:

Search results for Camden Market

Search results for Little Venice

Search results for Regents Park

Even though when we completed this image search for the areas to make sure that in real life the areas did look how we wanted them to we completed a location visit to get shots of what the places will look like when we shoot there. This is what we found:

Name Research and Decision Making

Today as we now have a genre and song for our artist, we decided that we were able to come up with a final name for the artist. The name is really important for the selling and marketing of the artist because it needs to be memorable, but also fit the genre of their artist. It is also important for it to not only sound correct, but look correct written down, because this will then help us for when we come around to creating a logo for her.
The name we finally all agreed on was
HEIDI HOLMES

DigiPak Research

Now that we have completed conventions and analysis for DigiPaks, we feel that we now have sufficient information to complete the required research. By completing this research it will enable us to create a realistic and accurate DigiPak for our artist in the Folk/Folk-Pop genre, which is especially important when trying to portray across to the consumer the representation of our artist. Along with this we also looked into the ways in which we could follow the correct conventions, but make our artist unique as well. This research includes information on the photography used, titles and writing used and colour schemes.

Risk Assessment

When filming as we will be on our own it is important that we fully understand any risks we may have in our locations of choice and how to come with these risks and what to do if anything of the type happened. We had to make sure that we filled it out very precisely and were accurate in the information about the nearest hospitals that we put down.
Below is our completed risk assessment:

Shooting Day 1- Shooting Schedule

Our first location we have decided to go to is South Weald Park, as it possesses the nature-based, autumnal atmosphere that we want in our music video therefore we have chosen it as our photo shoot location as well as our first filming location. Below is the shooting schedule that we created to ensure that filming goes as smoothly as possible. This will save us time during the production as the schedule states the framing, shot type and props needed for each shot. Being organised is essential for a successful production. This will therefore give us time to focus intently on smooth camera work as well as performance as we do not have to think about coming up with shot ideas on the spot. However, if the location inspires us on the day for cutaway ideas, we will make sure to record it.

Similar Artist Research

In order for our group to be able to create an accurate representation of our artist, it is important that we focus on similar genre artists to make our artist as realistic as possible. This therefore means that we will be able to market our artist in an appealing way to our target audience, who would listen to the artist's music.

Similar Genre DigiPak Analysis

Today, in order to understand what to look out for in a DigiPak of the genre of our choice, we completed the analysis of a DigiPak in the same genre. The genre we are looking at is Folk Pop, so by looking at the DigiPak of Treva Blomquist's 'As It Should Be' it will give us an insight as to what the DigiPak can suggest and show about an artist and their music.

Location Shots

After finding inspiration from other music videos and our Steal-o-matic for the locations of our music video we decided to go and visit South Weald Country Park in Brentwood. We chose this location due to its beautiful, green open spaces and autumn feel. We looked the area up online first and this is what we found:

After seeing this we decided that for our nature shots it would be perfect, so to make sure it would work for the music video we imagined we completed a location visit, to see for ourselves where to film. The stairs, area by the lake and forest area was exactly what we wanted and will easily help us portray across to the audience the artist's image and represent the genre of the music.
These a couple of the location shots we took during our visit:

Location Inspiration

So that we are able to make our music video as professional as possible, it is important that everything that we complete looks perfect and realistic for someone of our artist's, Heidi Holmes, genre, which is Folk/Folk-Pop. For this to happen we need to understand the types of locations videos of this genre will be filmed in, especially since we want our artist to have a happier, more fun loving and modern edge to her compared to other artists in the same genre. In order to portray this through our music video the personality which comes through from the artist must be parallel to the location she is in.
The video below shows where we have got and will get our inspiration from:

Props List

As we have now completed the research necessary on props, we are able to create a list of props that we will need for our artist to use and include within the music video. These will help further her image and make her fun representation clearer to the audience and consumers. The information developed here will help with the Shooting Schedule as it will enable us to be organised and more efficient with our time because, they will be no confusion as to what we need to bring in order to film.
The list is as follows:

  1. Guitar (Acoustic)
  2. Over the head Headphones
  3. Microphone
  4. Microphone Stand
  5. Beanie Hats
  6. Flowers (Wild)
  7. Floral Headband
  8. Polaroid Camera (Filler Shots)
  9. Scarf
  10. Polaroid Film

We will borrow these props from other people or from ourselves or buy them when we go shopping. As we are on a budget, due to our artist only just starting out, we look around and cannot just go for the first one we see in case there is a cheaper option elsewhere. Luckily apart from two of the items needed above, we already have ourselves within the group, meaning we do not have to spend much money at all.
